Mixed week for Santos' wildcat wells

While there has been a flurry of activity in the Santos boardroom, out in the field it has been a mixed week for the Adelaide-based oil and gas producer. Its offshore West Australian well, Norfolk-1, intersected a gross oil column of 30m (20m net) with excellent reservoir sands. Evaluation of the zone of interest will continue with wire-line pressure surveys and down-hole fluid sampling, Santos said.

Unfortunately, Santos' wildcat well in the Timor Sea, Mallonee-1, was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole. The Ocean Drilling rig has been de-mobilised to Darwin Harbour.
