Murdock-1 begins drilling at Padre Island

Sydney-based Novus Petroleum has announced the second well in its Padre Island drilling program, Murdock-1, has spudded. The well is one of six wells Novus is planning to drill in the Padre Island area.

It follows on from the success of La Playa-1 and the company has particularly high expectations for Murdock after modern 3D seismic indicated the structure could contain significant gas reserves.

Participants in the Murdock-1 well include Novus (40%), BNP Petroleum Corporation (operator-30%), Mitsui Oil Exploration Co (20%) and Golden Gate Resources (10%).
