Subsea camera work pays off for 10 year old wells

Venture Production, a North Sea operator recently used UWG Groups real-time digital subsea camera system, Camscan, to assess the condition of two suspended wellheads in the central North Sea's Sycamore Field.

The wells had lain dormant for over ten years. Camscan was lowered to a depth of about 130m to evaluate the state of the wellheads, and then monitor the cleaning with UWG brushing and flushing tools.

Work on the first well commenced in July and has already been completed. Work on the second well began in October and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

"Camscan has proved to be an impressive system both in terms of its effectiveness and the efficiency of the operation it undertook," Venture Production drilling engineer Mal Evans said.

UWG Group's general manager Tom Leeson said, "As the work with Venture Production has shown, Camscan is an ideal tool for re-entry into suspended wells. It allows customers to see what kind of cleaning is required, which can then be actioned with the use of UWG's cleaning equipment."

Oil production from the two wells is expected to begin early next year.
