Antech release wireline logging head

Specialist engineering design and manufacturing company, AnTech, has announced the latest addition to its range of wireline logging tools and equipment with the launch of its new wireline logging head.

The logging head provides an improved means of connecting tools, such as casing collar locators and perforating guns, to the remainder of the string.

Prior to the logging head, the industry standard in wireline logging heads has been to use a mechanical shear pin or hydraulic release to disconnect. These tools have been problematic as they can release prematurely, said AnTech.

The primary benefit of the logging head is that it features an electrical disconnect that prevents premature release.

The logging head features a top connect that attaches to coiled tubing, and check valves that allow fluid to be pumped downhole, but prevents fluid from returning. In the event of an emergency, its cable weak point allows the cable to be broken and pulled back. The electrical disconnect makes it possible to plan a separation of the head from the string.

"We have been designing wireline logging tools and equipment for over ten years, so we are extremely aware of the problems posed by the propensity of logging heads that use a mechanical or hydraulic disconnect to release prematurely," AnTech managing director Toni Miszewski said.

"With the new AnTech logging head that features the electrical disconnect, operators can be assured that among the many concerns they have, an inadvertent release of a perforating gun will not happen."
