GOM auction underwhelms but Byron buys in 

THE latest Gulf of Mexico acreage auction, the biggest in US history, may have  underwhelmed all but its spokespeople, with just 1% of blocks bid on, but Byron Energy has moved quickly to secure seven new leases including one it lost out on last time, in a move to shore up its position around its South Marsh 71 project.

The Wednesday sale took in offshore acreage reportedly the size of Florida and acreage prices that ended up at a low US$153, a steep 35% drop over last year (before the oil price had begun a stronger recovery)...
