Houston-based CSO Aker Maritime has been awarded a major engineering, procurement and construction contract for a Spar floating production platform hull for the Gunnison field in the Gulf of Mexico.

It will also be responsible for the mooring and riser system.

The hull, which will be built in Finland, will be about 170 metres tall, with a diameter of about 30m, displace 38,000 metric tonnes and weigh approximately 14,000 tonnes.

The Gunnison Field is located in the Gulf of Mexico about 250km southeast of Galveston, Texas in 950m of water. The field is operated by Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kerr-McGee Corp and will be the company's third Truss Spar.
