Earthquake, fire close refineries

A fire caused by last Friday's earthquake that rocked Japan's Hokkaido Island has forced Idemitsu...

Idemitsu has issued a statement saying that it would restart the plant as soon as power supply was restored. The fire affected the plants desulphurisation and hydro-cracking units.

Nippon Oil was also forced to stop operations on two units at its Muroran refinery. While there was no fire at this facility, the earthquake disrupted the plants supply of electricity and brought about the temporary suspension of activity.
