Greek tanker still burning off Hong Kong

Rough seas have hampered efforts by firefighters from Hong Kong to put out a fire on a Greek-owned tanker carrying 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas yesterday. However, according to officials from the Hong Kong Maritime Rescue Centre, there is no immediate risk of an explosion.

Hong Kong authorities said the blaze was in the engine room of the Panamanian-registered Gaz Poem, some distance from the ship's highly volatile cargo while winds were blowing flames away from the cargo.
