Spokesmen from both companies have claimed the field is among the assets of the other.

Naturally, neither company would make an official comment on the disaster that put 10,000 people in hospital and forced 60,000 citizens around the accident area to be evacuated. Instead, both have stated that a statement on the blast and responsibility for it would be made once an assessment from the central government was made.

The blast in question occurred on 23 December when workers from the Chuandong Drilling and Exploration Company were working on a 400-metre well in Kai county, Chongqing Province.
