Energy resources fuel PNG's growth and living standards

WHILE the resources sector has been a key sector in Papua New Guinea’s economy for decadess, further potential for economic growth and an expansion of the country’s gross domestic product has been identified by the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.

Figures from the World Bank indicate that the energy and resources industry provides a combined 26% contribution to the country's GDP, 80% of the nation's export revenue, and provides employment to over 20,000 citizens. 
 
Along with this, large companies operating resource extraction activities have also invested huge amounts into the local communities ensuring residents in many remote areas have basic services and infrastructure like roads and education.
