CNOOC has earmarked over US$700 million to develop and link three offshore gas fields to supply Macau and Zhuhai, with first gas expected in 2006.

It marks an interesting internal competition between CNOOC and Petrochina, which is bringing in overland gas to supply the energy hungry Chinese seaboard, from the Xinjiang province in the north west.
