In a statement Deputy Presidential Spokesman and Cabinet Secretary Ricardo Saludo said, “The government is propagating the widespread use of natural gas, which can be used to fuel buses, and coco-diesel as an additive. The price of natural gas is more stable and its use will result in a cleaner environment.”
“There [is] also the construction of small hydro-electric plants, the use of bio-gas or bio-mass and even wind or solar power. These will slowly lessen the country’s dependence on crude oil even if most are on a long-term basis,” added Saludo.
The Philippines, courtesy of the Malampaya offshore fields, is rich in natural gas deposits.
