Pertamina to launch geothermal unit

Indonesias state-owned PT Pertamina has announced it will launch a geothermal unit of its own, PT...

According to Sukusen Soemarinda, the GM of Pertamina Geothermal Division, “[Pertamina] sees now as a good time to establish a subsidiary company to manage the geothermal division [with] profits [in the sector] estimated to grow in the coming years due to the increasing demand of alternative energy resources after the Indonesian government’s decision to cut the oil subsidy.”

Sukusen would not announce the launch date for the new entity nor the investment needed to execute its business plan but the Pertamina official did hint what it could cost.

“We can’t mention the exact investment amount needed yet, but we need at least a minimum US$ 1 million to produce 1 mW,” said the official.
