It was designed to service refineries in northeast China and around Bohai Bay and took two years to construct. The wharf also augments the existing crude and oil product docks already in the area and is expected to help turn Nianyu Bat into China’s largest oil and crude transit hub.

Initially, the wharf will handle around 10 million tons of crude. Plans are underway to increase the capacity to 15 million tons.
