Under the terms of the contracts, ABB Malaysia is to upgrade the electrical infrastructure around the Kuala Lumpur and the northern parts of West Malaysia to meet the country's increasing demand for energy and reliable power supply.

ABB Malaysia is expected to complete the first four 132kV substations' extension in 12 months with the remaining 275/132kV substation in two years time. These extensions are being done on existing substations, which means that transmission and operational interruptions should be kept to a minimum.

The company is expected to provide design, manufacture, test, erection and commissioning of civil works, switchgear and associated equipment. It has confirmed that it would supply the project with 275kV and 132kV AIS switchgear, associated substation equipment, which would include control and protection panels and a substation automation system.

ABB Malaysia's president and country manager Bengt Andersson was a happy man when he said, "We are extremely pleased with these contracts. They will improve the overall capacity, efficiency and reliability of existing power supply," following the signing of the contract.
