PTTEP plans Sirikit power plant

Thailands PTT Exploration and Production Plc (PTTEP) is mulling over the idea of setting up its o...

In a statement PTTEP President Maroot Mrigadat said, “The [S1] gas discovery would yield about 50 million cubic feet per day, sufficient to supply a small power plant. The reserve amount is not considerably high but what we are doing is trying to maximise the benefits from our assets.”

“The power plant would have a maximum capacity of 120 megawatts and would cost between US$600,000 and US$700,000 to build,” he added.

Maroot confirmed his firm had initially negotiated with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand on setting up the plant but has finally decided, if the plant is to be built, PTTEP will go its own way.

PTTEP acquired S1 from Thai Shell Exploration and Production in December 2003. The block has a production capacity of around 19,000 barrels per day.
