Omsk-Irkutsk pipeline leaks

ABOUT 5,000 cubic metres of oil has spilled out from a section of the Omsk-Irkutsk main pipeline ...

“Initial reports indicate that the pipeline depressurised," the Russian emergencies ministry said in a statement.

"Traces of an excavator scoop have been found on the 700-mm pipe [and] it is thought that the damage was done during repair work carried out earlier. The leaked oil trickled down a slope into an abandoned opencast mine [and] oil supply to the spill area has been cut off for the duration of the clean-up."
