Atwood ordering new jack-up rigs

IN what could be a sign that confidence is returning to the offshore drilling market, Atwood Oceanics has placed a $US364 million ($A374.7 million) order for two newbuild jack-up drilling rigs with Singapore's PPL Shipyard.

The jack-ups, which are scheduled for delivery on September 30 and December 31, 2012, will be based on PPL's Pacific Class 400 design. These are capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet...
