Spot Asian LNG breaks the trend

According to Platts Japan/Korea Marker, the May price averaged $US7.38 per million British thermal units - up 1.4% from the previous month's price of $7.29/MMBtu.

However, the May JKM price still fell 52.6% year-on-year, while the European market also impacted Asian spot LNG.

"The UK National Balancing Point (NBP) onshore gas market is seen to be providing a floor to Asian spot prices," Platts Asia LNG specialist Stephanie Wilson said.

"Sellers with offtake in the Atlantic continue to deliver those cargoes into European markets around $6-7/MMBtu delivered ex ship and backfill requirements in the Asia Pacific basin with spot cargoes.

"JKM could continue to mirror movements in the NBP until the arbitrage opportunity between the two basins opens again."
