THE Australian Energy Market Operator has warned that the closure of the coal-fired Liddell power station could lead to a serious power shortfall in New South Wales, where it supplies more than 10% of demand.

The Liddell power station is due to close

AGL Energy will have to firm up commitments to replace the 1800 megawatt station, and AEMO said today that an additional 850MW will needed once the station closes in 2022.
