Unacceptable vandalism blamed for pipeline work stoppage in PNG

 
Work at the Angore well pads has been suspended, according to the company, and staff are being demobilised and shipped out after "unacceptable" acts of vandalism. 
 
No restart date for the project, which will connect the gas field to the Hides gas processing plant via an 11km-long pipeline, has been given although the existing gas plant continues to operate. 
 
The Highlands area has been volatile recently with the government earlier deploying troops after declaring a nine-month-long state of emergency. 
In mid-June protesters went on what the government described as a rampage, looting and burning in local capital Mendi.
