EAST coast LNG import plans could scupper Santos’ Narrabri CSG project in New South Wales and drive up gas prices, according to a note published yesterday by Macquarie Wealth Management.

Baulderstone's AIE NSW LNG import terminal may derail Narrabri CSG

Both Narrabri and LNG import plans have been opposed by environmentalists, but the proposed CSG project has long faced its toughest opposition from farmers who believe the water table may be affected. 
 
Santos argues Narrabri could provide up to 50% of NSW's domestic gas needs, a lot considering the state imports almost 95% of its gas needs. 
 
However, the Australian Industrial Energy consortium's plans for an LNG import terminal in NSW Port Kembla may put paid to the oiler's long delayed onshore plans, destroying the supply-demand case for the project and giving the state government a reason to cut support.
