THE latest figures from the New Zealand government showed a 5.8% decline in regional gross domestic product in Taranaki, once the country’s biggest oil and gas hub.

According to industry peak body Energy Resources Aotearoa, the oil and gas sector provided about 11,000 direct and indirect jobs and contributed NZ$2.4 billion in GDP each year.
