Senecio-1 is designed to test a prospect identified on 2D seismic and gravity data on the downthrown side of a major fault, according to Arc managing director Eric Streitberg.
“Senecio 1 has been identified on the basis of our existing regional mapping and will provide a very important test of the area between the Elegans gas accumulation and the Centella oil accumulation,” Streitberg said.
“It is being drilled now to provide time critical planning and evaluation data for the proposed Irwin 3D seismic survey which is proposed to be acquired early next year and is in the advanced stages of approvals.”
The well is being drilled as a sidetrack from the existing Hakia-2 well bore, the surface location of which is roughly 15 kilometres east of the township of Dongara. The target bottom hole location of the Senecio-1 well is about 720 metres south of the surface location.
The top of the primary objective Dongara Sandstone is prognosed to be intersected at about 2,700 metres measured depth. The proposed total depth of the well is 2,800 metres measured depth. The well is expected to take 8 days to reach its primary objective.
Following the completion of Senecio-1, the rig will drill the Bartsia-1 well, which is the next wildcat well to be drilled on the basis of the Denison 3D survey.
Participants in L1 and L2 (excluding the Dongara, Mondarra and Yardarino fields) and Senecio 1 are Arc Energy Limited 50% (operator) and Origin Energy Developments Pty Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Origin Energy Limited) 50%.
