Federal Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane today announced MICT One, of Launceston, would receive Australian Government innovation funding.
Macfarlane said the low-cost vehicle had low-light cameras matched to image recognition and analysis software.
“Devices developed for the vehicle can be operated as fixed sensors with direct signal input to land-based control centres, manually from towing vessels, remotely by a tethered distributed computer networking system, or autonomously via computer,” he said.
“The system will be aimed at markets in port security, surveillance, oil pipeline inspection, surveys, hull inspection, and sea-bottom mapping.”
Macfarlane said a prototype of the vehicle, matching identified market requirements, would be developed as part of the project.
