Takeover speculation dogs Origin

ORIGIN Energy has denied rumours it is the target of a takeover bid, in response to a share price query from the Australian Stock Exchange.

Shares in Origin jumped from $7.60 last week to a high of $8.40 yesterday, prompting the ASX to question whether the Sydney-based company had withheld any information.

In its query, the ASX pointed to “recent media reports in relation to the company being subject to a takeover bid”.

Origin responded that it was not aware of any information that would explain the share price jump, “including in relation to the media reports to which you refer”.

At 10.30am EST today, ORG was trading slightly lower at $8.17.
