PetroleumNews.net was surprised to find out that there were parts of the Canning that Arc Energy had not already acquired, but three of the onshore blocks - L07-7, L07-8 and L07-9 - are located in that basin.

The remaining three - L07-10, L07-11 and L07-12 - are in the Officer Basin. The offshore block, T06-1/L06-10, is in the Barrow Sub-basin region of the northern Carnarvon Basin in less than 50m of water.

The government said all seven blocks were located in areas with previous hydrocarbon shows.

Interested companies can send in their applications at the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources website. The licensing round will close in March 2008.
