Bob Brown calls it a day

AUSTRALIAN Greens leader Bob Brown has unexpectedly quit as head of the party and will resign from federal parliament in June, when his Tasmanian replacement becomes available.

Brown announced his retirement from politics at 10am EST this morning to party colleagues.

The 67-year old said he was sad to leave politics behind, but was leaving the party in good shape.
