LNG will be primarily sourced from uncommitted volumes from Woodside's Pluto LNG project in the Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia.

Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said the agreement added to the company's long-term relationships with major Japanese energy buyers.

The sale comes after Japanese investors recently abandoned a deal to buy more than a million tonnes of gas a year from the company's Browse project.

Woodside had two agreements with investment company MIMI, one to jointly market LNG in Asia and one to sell 1.5MMt of LNG from Browse, which was terminated.
