Event organiser, The Australian Journal of Mining, said high oil prices and Australia’s growing energy consumption meant there was a need to develop alternative fuels and encourage the production of liquid fuels from gas and coal fields.

The international speaker panel will also provide the latest industry updates and discuss the issues and emerging challenges facing the industries.

Day One speakers include: ABARE Climate Change manager, Anna Matyseck, who will discuss the outlook for global energy prices and implications for CTL/GTL industries; Acil Tasman’s Ian Satchwell to talk about igniting interest in GTL investment; Sasol Chevron’s Tony Pytte; and Methanol Australia’s Chris Hart.

In the afternoon, international presentations will be delivered by a Jogmec (Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation – Technical Research Center (TRC) representative, and US-based Rentech Inc president Dennis L Yakobson. Then, Linc Energy’s Peter Bond will discuss the technical aspects and troubleshooting of UCG to CTL.

Day Two begins with David Ryan from the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources discussing the opportunities for a GTL industry in Western Australia. CSIRO Petroleum will identify the prospects for GTL in Australia, while Macquarie Bank’s Naush Dinshaw will provide a financier’s perspective.

GHD principal chemical engineer, Jake De Boer, will identify the challenges of setting up small scale plants, after which Syntroleum Corporation will provide an international presentation.

Central Petroleum’s John Heugh will then discuss GTL synergies for the monetisation of stranded gas in Central Australia.
