COAL SEAM METHANE

Permian prospects promising: Pure

TESTING indicates that the first two wells drilled in Pure Energy’s maiden Queensland coal seam methane exploration program have struck productive coal seams, the company said yesterday.

Brisbane-based Pure said that in permit ATP806P the Dingonose-1 well had encountered about 20m of net coal in the Permian Coals, with gas contents averaging 14 cubic metres per tonne (m3/t) over fifteen coal samples, with a high of 17.7m3/t.

The Duckworth-1 well encountered about 15m of net coal in the Permian Coals, with gas contents averaging 10m3/t over sixteen coal samples, with a high of 13.1m3/t.

Pure said the Depco Rig 18 had completed permeability testing at both wells, with the results currently being evaluated.

The Duckworth prospect is about 30km northwest of Dingonose. The two wells are the first steps in a 12-well exploration program to assess eight CSM prospects. Pure will drill eight wells and farm-in partner Arrow Energy the remaining four in permits ATP831P and ATP759P.

Pure previously said Dingonose and Duckworth were located along mapped 'nose' structures, where fracture density and the likelihood of an open cleat system were believed to be greatest; this was considered most favourable for CSM production.

The company also said that a 100km seismic survey over permit ATP806P had been completed.

Meanwhile, in permit ATP758P, Pure said the Depco Rig 18 was currently moving to a site where it would core and test the Kmann-1 and Boombah-1 well prospects in the Duaringa Basin.

A 110km seismic survey had also now been completed in that permit.

Four drilling locations had now been finalised in permit ATP852P, which would be cored and tested after operations were completed in ATP758P, the company added.
