Berwyndale South is QGC’s first gas processing site

QUEENSLAND Gas Company's first gas processing facility - a $50 million compressor station - will be sited at Berwyndale South in the Surat Basin, QGC says.

The facilities are designed to process gas from fields at Berwyndale South in PL201 and Argyle in ATP 620P that will be linked by a 15-kilometre lateral pipeline built by engineering firm GHD Pty Ltd.

There would also be a 14km pipeline from Berwyndale South to link to the Roma-to-Brisbane pipeline, QGC said.

The station and gas production facilities will be on the 1,600-hectare property “Windibri” purchased by the company earlier this month.

This property was the site of production testing from the Berwyndale South pilot that started in 2002.

Work on the development is scheduled to start next month with building a field camp to house the drilling and construction teams for the gas production facilities and the gas processing and transportation infrastructure.

Construction of the gas compressor station would follow in August, QGC said.

Managing director Richard Cottee said the station’s facilities were significantly more streamlined than those needed for conventional natural gas production.

“As QGC’s gas is 98% methane, the processing facilities at Berwyndale South will comprise of only dewatering, dehydration and compression equipment in order to deliver market quality gas supplies,” he said.

An integrated project team of QGC employees, specialist engineers and advisors would be established in Brisbane to coordinate the station’s construction, he said.

Contracting company WorleyParsons had been appointed to do the detailed engineering for the project and final approvals for the development were expected from the Queensland government by the end of this week.

The supply timetable could be advanced so the first deliveries of gas to CS Energy could arrive in March next year, Cottee said.

At PL20, QGC holds a 90% interest with Sentient Global Resources Fund (10%). At ATP 620P (Argyle), QGC holds a 59.375% with Pangaea Oil & Gas Pty Ltd (40.625%).
