YESTERDAY’s APPEA conference contained a small surprise for some: the seeming ambivalence of BP’s vice president for carbon management Gardiner Hill over the development of the Browse field offshore Western Australia by operator Woodside Petroleum.

He said the company "is still evaluating Browse", the LNG project it shares with operator Woodside Petroleum and partners Shell, PetroChina and Japan-Australia LNG.

"Browse is high CO2," he said.
