DRILLING

Taunton-2 spuds today

Targetting a possible by-passed oil column in a preceding well, the Ensco 56 drilling rig spuds the Taunton-2 exploration hole later today.

Taunton-2 is designed to test the updip extent of an interpreted by-passed oil column in Taunton-1, at around 1350m, according to junior partner, Pan Pacific.

The estimated mid-case oil potential for the accumulation within permit TL2 is 3 million barrels. The well is located only 6 kilometres from the Airlie Island production facilities.

The well is operated by Santos and will take approximately five days to drill. It will be plugged and abandoned at the conclusion, as it is being drilled as a throwaway exploration well, meaning specifically engineered production wells will be drilled in the event of a commercial development.
