The 99% Shell-owned exploration well Herdsman-1 has been plugged and abandoned as a dry hole after wireline logs indicated no hydrocarbon presence.
Herdsman-1, located about 170km south of the Woodside's Enfield oil field, spudded on 28 January and was drilled to determine the geology of the area offshore from Exmouth and south of the existing North West Shelf discoveries.
The Woodside-operated obligation well was drilled in permit WA-299P that was issued to Shell in July 2000, and the work program during six years of tenure calls for two wells and upwards of $37 million in various studies.
