DRILLING

Novus is targeting 1tcf of gas discoveries

It's a very busy time for Sydney-based Novus Petroleum with a drilling program targeting over one trillion cubic feet of gas.

Currently the company is drilling in Indonesia's Kapap production sharing contract, at Zarghun North in Pakistan, at La Playa-1 at Padre Island in south Texas as well as another Indonesian well, Carat-1 in the Brantas production sharing contract. Novus is also planning to spud two Indonesian wildcats this month.

In Brantas PSC, Novus has had recent success with its Tanggulangin-1 well, which encountered a 33m net gas column. The onshore Brantas PSC also contains the producing Wunut gas field. Carat-1 is about 5km south of Wunut.

Despite being a stone's throw from the conflict in Afghanistan, Zarghun North is targeting pre-drill mean reserve estimates of 500 million cubic feet.

As for its US play, Novus said its La Playa-1 well is testing an unexploited gas pool and the company has recently completed a deal to buy 30% of the Stratton gas field in Texas from Apache Corp.
