Second Norfolk strike for Santos in Carnarvon Basin

Adelaide-based Santos Ltd has announced that its oil appraisal well, Norfolk-2, intersected a net oil column of 9m in excellent reservoir, primary objective Angel sand. This follows the 20m of net oil pay encountered in the Norfolk-1.

The Norfolk field is located in WA-191-P in the Carnarvon Basin, offshore Western Australia. On completion of the Norfolk-2, the rig will be moved to drill a similar on-trend prospect, Exeter-1, located 10km south of Norfolk-1 in the same permit.

Santos told the stock exchange that this oil may form part of larger accumulation also incorporating the Pitcairn-1 oil discovery however further appraisal work was required to determine reserves potential.

Santos is the operator and has a 33.4 per cent stake in the permit. Other joint venture partners include ExxonMobil (33.4%), Nippon Oil Exploration (25%) and Woodside (8.2%).
