DRILLING

One zone well does not deter Mosaic

Mosaic Oil's Norkam-1 well will be cased and suspended as a gas producer from its secondary Rewan Formation target zone, easing the company's disappointment at not finding the deeper Tinowon Sandstone objective.

The company said after reaching the target depth of 2200 metres the well was being plugged back to 2155 metres.

Mosaic chief Howard Brady did not rule out the potential of the area for the prospectivity of the Tinowon Sandstone.

"We have managed our risk by discovering gas in the Rewan Formation. As the Tinowon sandstone was absent in this one location, the general area has not been downgraded," he said.

"We are now getting ready to move the rig to our next location in the Tinker area. In the Tinker area, years ago Bridge Oil made a number of successful gas discoveries but the Rewan Formation was never drilled with nitrogen. We think the area still has significant potential."
