Sand little cause for concern at Chinguetti

The production test of the first of two zones of Woodside's Chinguetti discovery in Mauritania flowed at a maximum rate of 1560 barrels of oil and 650mscf of gas per day through a 30/64 inch choke. The result was somewhat disappointing for the partners as sand influx into the well bore restricted flow rates.

Woodside said in a report that the sand issue was not a major cause for concern. "Sand inflow from reservoirs can be controlled. In the case of a development, appropriately designed and completed production wells should be capable of achieving significantly higher flow rates," it said.

Current operations are recovering the test string and making preparations to production test the second test zone. It is understood the second zone should be reached over the weekend with those results available mid-week.
