Croatian firms strikes Syrian gas

Croatia’s INA Nafta has announced the discovery of a gas field in Syria with estimated reserves of 15 billion cubic metres. The field, Jihar, is the third discovered by the company since 2002.

In a statement INA Nafta Director Tomislan Dragicevic said, “We have handed the Syrian oil ministry a report on the discovery of a gas field near Palmyra. [However], for technical reasons, [I cannot] give an estimate of its daily output capacity.”

Syria’s current gas reserves are estimated to be around the 240 billion cubic metre mark.
