The oil bearing zone was identified after running logs across the Iagufu Formation. The primary target of the IDT-9 ST2 well was the Toro sands. The well was at a total depth of 3,232 metres and finalising logging operations.

Oil Search said the forward program is to case and complete the well. It will then be tested using the existing IDT-9 flowline.

The Kutubu Field currently produces around 18,000 bopd.

Interests are Oil Search 72.0% (operator), ExxonMobil 14.5%, Petroleum Resources (Kutubu) Ltd 6.7% and Merlin Petroleum 6.8%.
