Banteng-1 done and dusted

The Banteng-1 JV deepwater appraisal well was terminated in basement rock without reaching its targeted Baturaja limestone formation. The well was drilled to a measured depth of 11,418 feet before the plug was pulled.

In a statement Serica Energy CEO Christopher Rivett-Carnac said, “The operator, PT Medco Energi E&P, has plugged and abandoned the well. Serica had a 10% carried interest in the well, and thus did not contribute to the US$9.2 million cost.

“Banteng-1 was spudded on June 25 and after logging the final open hole section earlier this month, the well was abandoned,” he added.

The well is located in the Lematang Block in Indonesia.
