New reserves found on the Sakhalin shelf

A report in Itar-Tass indicated Elvari Neftegaz, a JV between Rosneft and BP Plc, has announced “considerable oil and gas reserves” following the completion of drilling at its first well on the Kaigansko-Vasyukansky prospect on the Sakhalin-5 project,

The well in the Sakhalin shelf, is located 49 km offshore Sakhalin.

According to the report, “The well was drilled on the Pela Leich structure that is located to the north of all other oil-bearing blocks.”

“At present the well rig completed its operation fulfilling tasks of the season 2004 [and] the well rig will be tested and additional information on reserves of hydrocarbons will be collected later,” it added.

Sakhalin-5 has estimated reserves of 600 million tonnes of oil and 600 billion cubic metres of gas.
