The Corowa East-1 well spudded on Monday, following up the 1971 Corowa-1 discovery which flowed 4534 barrels of oil per day from an 11 metre sandstone section.

The well is targeting an estimated mean recoverable reserve of 7.4 million barrels of oil and a high-side potential of 17.5 million barrels, according to operator Santos.

The well will be drilled to a depth of 1665 metres, which will take about 7 days including evaluation.

It is in EP WA-264P, 1.2km to the east of the Corowa-1 well and approximately 40 km west of the Thevenard Island production facility.

Interests are Santos Offshore Pty Ltd 50.00% (operator), Kufpec Australia Pty Ltd 33.33%, Beach Petroleum Ltd 16.67%.
