DRILLING

Luck runs out for Santos, Drillsearch

FOLLOWING a remarkable run of success, the Tintaburra partners – Santos and Drillsearch Energy – appear to have reached the limits of the Endeavour field with two more wells coming up dry.

Luck runs out for Santos, Drillsearch

In a statement yesterday, Drillsearch said the Endeavour-38 well, which spudded on Christmas Day, has been plugged and abandoned after encountering poor oil shows in the Birkhead reservoir, while wireline logs showed there was no pay over the reservoir interval.

The PDI-735 rig was then released to the Endeavour-40 location, which was yesterday drilling ahead at a depth of 1085m.

On Boxing Day, the PDI-724 rig spudded the Currawinya-1 well, which encountered poor oil shows while drilling, with wireline logs indicating these intervals were water-wet. The well has now been plugged and abandoned and the rig released to the Endeavour-26 location.

Participating interests in the Tintaburra Block, of ATP 299P, in southwest Queensland are operator Santos with 89%, Drillsearch (10%) and CPC Energy (1%).
