Netherby proves a winner

SANTOS's decision to complete the Netherby-1 development well in the offshore Otway Basin, Victoria, has paid for itself after it produced 51 million cubic feet of gas per day during clean-up flow.

Partner Australian Worldwide Exploration said flow rates during the well test were constrained by surface facilities.

Netherby-1DW1, the second of three wells that the joint venture is drilling to find additional gas reserves, will be tied by pipeline to the Henry and Casino gas fields.

The earlier Pecten East-1 well proved to be non-commercial after wireline logs and pressure testing confirmed that the gas shows seen during drilling were residual.

The Ocean Patriot semi-submersible drilling rig will now move to drill the Henry-2 pilot and development well.

Partners in VIC/P44 joint venture are operator Santos (50%), AWE (25%) and Mitsui E&P Australia (25%).
