Origin confident of strong full year result

Origin Energy is confident of an increase in net earnings for the full year to June after reporting a 10.4 per cent increase in first half profit. Origin's net profit for the six months to December 2001 was $54.7 million, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation rose by 24% to $192.6 million.

Origin said its retail and trading business provided all the profit increase with the $315 million acquisition of the Powercor retail business playing an instrumental role in the result. Earnings slipped back in upstream oil and gas as well as power generation, Origin added.
