Opening the 2002 Energex Futures Forum, Minister for Environment, Dean Wells told delegates the Smart State vision was about securing a sustainable future for all Queenslanders and urged corporate leaders to make it part and parcel of their everyday business.
"Business-as-usual is no longer enough," Mr Wells said.
He said, "Changes in regulation, market demands and community expectations means that an organisation must continually evolve and reinvent itself so its products and services maintain their business viability."
"By adopting a partnership approach the Queensland Government is helping companies face up to this challenge to improve their environmental, social and economic performance," Mr Wells said.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), through its Sustainable Industries Division was leading the way in working with business and industry to help them invest, compete and profit sustainably.
"Through partnerships with organisations such as the Institution of Engineers, which organised the Futures Forum, we are making sustainability a business ally," he said.
