Alinta Gas and NRG team up

AlintaGas Limited and NRG Asia-Pacific Ltd will investigate the feasibility of building a $300 million power station in the Perth area. NRG Asia-Pacific is a unit of NRG Energy, the third largest independent power producer in the world.

The move will pit AlintaGas against Western Power in the lead-up to full deregulation of the Western Australian electricity market, which the government hopes to open by 2005.

NRG owns and operates more than 2,000 MW of generating capacity in Australia and over 24,000 MW globally while AlintaGas is Western Australia's leading natural gas distribution and gas retail company.
