World on notice: UN report suggests a million species threatened

THE latest United Nations Global Assessment, published overnight in Paris, study suggests up one million species of flora and fauna could face extinction within decades “unless action is taken to reduce the intensity of drivers of biodiversity loss”.

This equates to roughly 25% of species globally.

It is the body's first report since 2005 and according to UNESCO director general Audrey Azoulay it puts the world "on notice".
